Dining with Your Doggie in Savannah

Most of the restaurants in Savannah that have outdoor sections will allow your dog to join you, assuming that he or she is a good canine citizen. (No jumping up on a neighboring table to snag a steak, please!). However, few if any will take reservations for these outdoor tables, so it helps to get there early.

Following is a selection of dog-friendly eateries with a broad range of prices and type of food.

Olympia Café
5 East River St.
233-3131
Terrific Greek Food! There are only a couple of outdoor tables, so it’s a good idea to get there either early or late. But while you’re waiting, you can take Pooch for a leisurely stroll along the river, watching the freighters and tug boats and certainly people-watching.

Belford’s Savannah
313 W. Julian St.
233-2626
Award winning fine dining! Plenty of tables. Right off City Market, so ideal for a stroll around the area before and after your repast.

Cafe Ambrosia
202 E. Broughton St.
443-0909
Pets are treated to a fresh bowl of water and a Milkbone at their cozy outdoor tables. Owners can enjoy espresso/coffee and Lunch/Pannini sandwiches!

Cafe 37
205 E. 37th St.
236-8533
Cafe 37 is open Tuesday - Sunday for lunch. From Escargot to Southern Eggs Benedict, you and your pooch can dine in their beautiful garden!

Cosentino’s Trattoria
44 MLK Blvd.
232-2720
Spaghetti-and-Meatballs style Italian.

Fernando’s of Martha’s Vineyard
421 W. Congress St. (corner of MLK)
336-1903
Northern style Italian dining.

City Market Cafe
236-7133
Casual food smack in the heart of City Market. There’s often music playing in the square, and an endless stream of tourists and locals alike.

Tapas
790-7175
Also in the heart of City Market, this charming place offers a huge variety of Tapas, the tiny tastes traditionally served in bars in Spain. The dishes aren’t so tiny here, and they’re not terribly Spanish, either, but they are delicious, ranging from escargot to ravioli, from garlic bread to small salads. Generally, two or three dishes will make a meal. I usually get an extra order of something just for my own beloved canine

Vinnie Van Go Go’s
317 W. Bryan St.
233-6394
Right at the side of City Market, this is the best pizza in Savannah! Plus they have great salads. Tables are close together and the place is generally crowded, but it’s worth waiting for and there are plenty of benches to sit on in City Market, and ample galleries and shops to browse.

Wild Wing
790-9464
Also in the heart of City Market, this huge menu offers more varieties of chicken wings than you’d think possible, plus pretty much anything you might want to eat, from burgers or wraps to soups, salads and appetizers. And music, music, music.

Clary’s Café
404 Abercorn St.
233-0402
Breakfast and lunch in the café made famous by Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. A popular spot with local canines, too.

Firefly Café
321 Habersham St.
234-1971
Another popular spot with local canines and their owners.
